Lay Pastor Ministry in St. Paul
“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care…” 1 Peter 5:2

Our mission is to care for God’s people offering pastoral care and comfort to everyone in our congregation. We recognize the shepherding responsibilities of all believers to one another and seek to work with the ordained pastors to provide increased care for all. We intentionally put people in touch with one another so that pastoral care is readily available to each person every day.

What does a Lay Pastor do? The Lay Pastor commits to a life of Prayer, Availability, Contact and Example. Lay Pastors are assigned to 5 to 10 families or members, praying daily for them, being available to them, reaching out regularly, and living in such a way as to set a Christian example.

Melvin J. Steinbron has defined pastoring as, “…caring for another by giving one’s self in Christian love to a relationship in times of weakness and times of strength.” He writes, “Christian love is a giving love; and people need somebody who cares for them consistently, both when they are in need and when all is well.” Lay pastoring can help meet these needs.

Like Jethro’s advice to Moses in Exodus 18:17-23, the Lay Pastor Ministry helps share the load of caring for others. God gives pastoral gifts to lay people and calls them to pastor others.

Please prayerfully consider participating in the Lay Pastor ministry. Training and assistance will be provided
